About Us SNV is a Netherlands-based international development organisation that provides advice to local organisations in developing countries; a consultancy for those organisations that lack access to the commercial market. Our advisers work closely with local organisations in more than 25 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe to harness their own solutions for development. We aim to strengthen our partners in their bids to improve the income generating capacity of local communities, to create a fair influence over the way they are governed and to benefit from the natural resources surrounding them while sustaining the environment for future generations.
How do we Work SNV believes that a lack of capacity is the biggest problem facing Lao organisations, and that addressing this problem is the most important assistance we can give. Our advisors build the capacity of Lao organisations, so that they can work better and contribute effectively to poverty alleviation. We use the term adviser because SNV does not have its own projects. Instead, we build capacity within Lao organisations so that they are better able to plan and implement their work. We work with organisations that are above village level and mostly below national level. Such organisations are best suited to sustainably fighting poverty, yet are often unable to afford the consultancy advice that could help them to improve their work. SNV builds capacity throughout a sector as our experience shows that this is more effective than working with individual organisations in isolation.
